I’m extremely proud to announce that the Illinois International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) voted this week to endorse my campaign for Illinois Secretary of State.
A total of 14 IATSE Locals, representing more than 10,000 workers in the entertainment industry in Illinois, credited my commitment to fight for working families.
IATSE workers have been especially hard hit during the pandemic, which has devastated the industry and threatened many financial livelihoods.
“Alexi will make the concerns of IATSE workers and their families a top priority, including protecting their rights to organize, bargaining for higher wages and benefits and maintaining quality, affordable healthcare,” said Business Manager ofStagehands Local 2 Craig Carlson, who also serves as international IATSE VicePresident and Illinois AFL-CIO Vice President. “Alexi has consistently demonstrated that he has the backs of union men and women and will work tirelessly to create economic opportunities on their behalf.”
The IATSE endorsements are especially timely and build on the recent support from the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Locals 881 and 1546. Our campaign is building a strong coalition, help us keep the momentum going by contributing $3, $25 or $100 today.
Voting Rights Threatened
Also, in case you missed it, our campaign released a video yesterday in response to the threats to our voting rights.
As the impeachment trial of Donald Trump began this week, Republican-led legislatures across the country are using his unsubstantiated fraud claims to make it harder to vote.
Instead of encouraging more voter participation, voter suppression and disenfranchisement bills proposed in several states aim to curtail vote by mail, purge voter registration rolls and require voter IDs at the polls.
These meritless attempts to shrink the electorate come after a record number of ballots were cast in the November presidential election and are obviously de-signed to rollback hard-fought rights of voters.
