Giannoulias Releases First Spanish Language Video

Former State Treasurer Exploring Run for Secretary of State

Former State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias released his first Spanish language video today, emphasizing his commitment to the Latinx community.

In the video, Giannoulias, who is considering running for Secretary of State in 2022, notes that his parents arrived as immigrants to America from Greece more than 50 years ago.

“Like you, they believed in the promise of America,” he says, adding that many recent immigrants today feel that promise has been broken.

You can view the video here.

Taking a page from President Joe Biden’s theme of “Build Back Better,” Giannoulias stressed his dedication to do the same for Illinois by restoring trust and confidence in our public institutions and elected officials.

“I will serve as a tireless fighter for the Latinx community to ensure that they can build better lives and have their voices heard in Springfield and throughout the state,” Giannoulias said. “I believe that everyone – not just the privileged few – must have the opportunity and a real chance to succeed. That starts with restoring trust.”

As State Treasurer, Giannoulias created thousands of jobs for small businesses, developed a program to make home-buying more affordable, and cracked down on predatory lenders and unscrupulous debt collectors.

As part of his campaign for Secretary of State, Giannoulias pledged to devote more resources to promote financial literacy and investigate crimes involving financial fraud and to protect the elderly and immigrants from becoming victims of investment scams.
