Democrat Giannoulias Earns AFSCME Endorsement for Secretary of State

CHICAGO – Democratic Nominee for Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias today received the endorsement and campaign support of AFSCME, the nation’s largest public services employees union, which represents more than 90,000 active and retired members in

Illinois.“Alexi Giannoulias knows how to run an important statewide office because he’s done it before,” said AFSCME Council 31 Executive Director Roberta Lynch, noting Giannoulias served as State Treasurer from 2006 to 2011. “AFSCME supports Alexi because he’s experienced, energetic, and he values working people and their unions.”

“I have tremendous respect for AFSCME and their members and I look forward to standing with them in solidarity as the next Illinois Secretary of State,” Giannoulias said. “I will fight against regressive policies aimed at diminishing the voices, pay and benefits of employees and stand with AFSCME to achieve a better quality of life for working families.”

In Illinois, public service workers are strong with AFSCME Council 31. Statewide, AFSCME represents more than 90,000 active and retired employees of state, county and city governments, state universities, local school districts and nonprofit agencies.
